I can't remember if I've mentioned this in a post before or not, but Brian's cousin/BFF/best man and his wife are expecting a nugget, too! And she's due one month after me! So so fun.  Their gender reveal party was just as adorable as they are!

So excited for these little cousins to grow up together! Now we just have to wait and see if Baby F. will be another little girly girl causing trouble with Baby D. or a big buff boy that will protect her for the rest of her life! ;)

- 20 weeks! -

Rewinding to October 28 = big day in this house...

Baby F's 20w anatomy scan!

You know, the "BIG ULTRASOUND" where they make sure the baby has all its parts and scour it from head to toe for all anomalies and do all these intricate measurements and etc. etc. etc.

This was an anxiously awaited and semi-high-stress appointment for me especially; being a labor and delivery nurse definitely comes with its perks, but a lot of times I wish I didn't know so much!  [For example:  I had dreams for weeks before this scan that the baby had anencephaly, and I'm guessing 90% of the population doesn't even know what that is so obviouslyyy a normal person would never have those dreams.  And that's just ONE THING I've panicked about... Ignorance be bliss. Fo rizzle.]

But the stress was short-lived.  The sonographer was fast, and as she moved on to each new body system she mumbled things like, "Mmmmhm, no cleft lip...  Ok, no gastroschisis... Kidneys are functioning and it looks like baby just emptied the bladder... No spina bifida... Limbs are normal sized... " and blah blah blah.  We invited both of our moms to the ultrasound to get a little glimpse of the nugget, and my mom told me later that she just thought this ultrasound was to see the heartbeat and measure the baby; when the sonographer started naming off all these big potential issues the baby luckily didn't have, she too was more nervous by the minute!

BUT...

A+ for Baby F. who weighed in at a whopping 11oz!  All the measurements combined rank him/her in the 45th percentile.....which I think my wide-set child-birthin' hips can easily deal with for a few more months. ;)

Pictures in da park to celebrate because that's how we roll:

More excited than ever to kiss those sweet cheeks in March!!!

- Behind 'da Frame -

Someone asked me the other day how we get so many good photos and.....

.....the answer was.....

.....we take hundreds and only choose one! ;)  Plus when you add little remote clicker into the mix, you can get about 50 pics in 5 seconds.

A little "behind the frame" action of capturing the fam Christmas card:

Merry Christmas!!!

- Christmas time is HERE! -

Four days post-Christmas, but better late than never! ;)

Decorating the house w/ Trans-Siberian Orchestra on Pandora and my boo!
I love this nativity scene because of how intricate it is but ALSO how much meaning it has.  My parents picked it out at a Christmas market in Rome when they came to visit at the end of my semester abroad in 2008.  Somehow they got it blessed by the Pope, stuffed in the suitcase, and wrapped under the tree all without me knowing! Muahhhh, beautimous.  I will cherish it [and the memory it brings of the Eternal City] forever!
Finished up just in time to snuggle up in PJs and pop some popcorn and watch a Christmas movie!  I heart the holidays!!!

And also:

- SOME of Second Tri [...but nothing too exciting...] -

Where did I leave off on the pregnancy diaries PARTE UNO?

Yes yes yesssss...at 20 weeks in that very blissful moment when the miracles occurred:  I realized I was 12 lbs lighter and the the continual cyclical puking had FINALLY stopped!

[But I forgot a fewwww minor things did happen before 20w.]

So: pregnancy diaries part 2a.

Literally zero zip zilch pictures were snapped and archived between 8w and 14w.  But this one day midway through week 14, I woke up and felt decent... And showered... And got dressed... And even put some makeup and jewelry on... And then we went to church [big accomplishment because I skipped a lot of weeks as to avoid climbing over people to sprint to the bathroom mid-Mass.  #prisonerofthepew... Forgive me Father.]... And THEN we met up with my parents for dinner.  Holy hell.  Back from the dead [and it was totally a fluke day in hindsight, but I soaked it up while I had it!].

13w5d -- The first moment I realized I was growing a fetus and not slowly dying from a terminal illness slash life-sucking tumor.

14w4d -- Still debatable whether or not this "bump" was actually a) a blooming bebe or b) a week of constipation or c) a pudge of malnutrition resulting from 14 weeks of soda cracker dieting.  Final decision left to reader's preference.

Speaking of option b) ^^, I think I'll just go off on a small tangent.

My BFF Katie and I offer these mini-sessions to all our pregnant family and friends called "Labor 101: What no one tells you about the labor and delivery process" because...let's be honest...ignorance is not always bliss if you have no idea that your vagina could potentially rip in half and you'll probably poop all over the delivery table in front of your husband/significant other/one-night-stand turned F.O.B.  Labor isn't as glamourous as it sounds and 'tis the way it goes, but it's just nice to be warned in advance, no? ;) [Side note:  All of my past customers have been thrilled with their increased knowledge base post-session.  Just shout at your girl if you're newly pregs and need a mini-sesh!]

Anyway, I'm a wee bit bitter that not one damn person gave me the lo-down on pregnancy.  "Pregnancy 101."  Where be those instructors and mini-sessions?  I've seen everything that could possibly go on in the labor rooms, but literally had not a clue how crazy the 9-month pre-labor ride would be.  Merry little baby bumps be a sweet little fantasy.

Where was this tangent going again?

Oh yeah.

Puking is puking and that's kinda self-explanatory, but let's get back to the pooping [AKA - lack thereof].

Thank God for self-checkouts at the store, because constipation is all shits and giggles until it's no shits and no giggles.  Taking these daily doses of fun = the difference between death and life:
[^^ Not pictured: enemas. Yeah, plural.]

And in case you were wondering [which I know you were!], those infamous colon cocktails that I regularly brag about couldn't even put a drop in the bucket [...pun intended if you're pickin' up what I'm layin' down...].

Jumping off soapbox and back into more socially-acceptable conversation [which I do realize is not nearly as captivating, BUT...for the sake of entertaining audiences of all shapes and sizes.............]...  Let's go, Cards!!!!! [???] Wow, this post is super late considering OPENING DAY is less than 100 days away now!!! Still super sad we didn't make it to the big W.S. this year, but the little punkin' still enjoyed his/her first glimpse of postseason adrenaline.  T-1 week until mama felt movement... Pretty convinced the cheering for the Cardinals got the child all amped up to start movin' and shakin'!

What else, what else, what else?  Oh, our trip to the pumpkin patch [that was already highlighted here]...

Man, even *I* am getting sick of hearing myself blab and that is a rarity.

Enough for now!

Happy fall!  Happy second trimester!  Happy cessation of puking and pooping! 20w diaries and beyond coming soon! Xoxoxoooooo.

- The Fetus in Florida -

Packed the bags and hit the road...it's VAY-CAY time!!!

We headed to Destin in November for a week-long roadtrip/anniversary celebration/baby-moon.  Pretty sweet to drive right into 70-degree temps when it was literally a freezing tundra in Illinois!

Hello, sunshine... :)
So my parents were nice enough to donate their timeshare points to the baby-moon cause and rented us this little 3-bedroom hole in the wall dump...
The best donuts there ever were.  Ever.  Brian could hardly drag me out of that place.  [Sorry I'm not sorry?]
22 weeks!  Getting close to viability and also the maximum weight limit at the pool! Hey baby hey baby hey baby HEY!!!
And lastly, busting out my tripod and camera for some pics on the beach...  Love my little blooming family!
[^^ Brian soaked up some sun on the golf course this day while I sat at the pool under an umbrella wearing 50 SPF...but still........it's debatable...bi-racial relationship?]

Hope we meet again soon, FL..... :)

- Pruh-pruh-pruh-MOTED! -

Only the best parents get promoted to GRANDPARENTS...

These two nuts are counting down for St. Patrick's Day 2015!!

The only thing better than having them for parents will be my children having them for grandparents!!

- It's juuuust about time for a #PSL! -

Happy fall, y'all!

Late October something and I celebrated my FIRST pumpkin spice latte of 2014!

[20-ish weeks and beginning to remember what it feels like to be a civilized human being!!!]

Baby bunny's first sip of caffeine...eek!

- BIG cousin on the loose! -

The first friend I unloaded the pregnancy secret on:

But I think he already knew anyway... ;)

But really, do you think dogs can sense pregnancies and sickness and other things like that?  Because Sarge is still just a wee little puppy who had his first birthday in August which means he is still a batsh*t crazy wild hellion 99.5% of the time...

...but then there are those 0.5% of the times when he's calm and protective and angelic and... *sigh*.  Love him!  Already making a sick momma feel better and stepping up to be Baby Fleming's little protector! <3

We heart you, Sergeant! Get excited...your Baby Fleming guard dog duty begins in March!!!

- First Tri [that no one in the world cares to warn you about] -

Soooo...the last couple posts.

Yeah, about those.

#1:  Our roadtrip to Cleveland/New York in June when Fetus Fleming decided to conceive him/herself [more info re: HOW DAT HAPPENED?]...

...and then #2:  a happy little announcement declaring the flourishing fetus to da world.

Two posts in 5-6ish months, which is totes not my style.

But there's a little explanation for the famine:

Super shockingly, pregnancy is a finicky game.

Now that I'm actually cookin' a bun in the oven, I guess I'll admit that I've baaaasically been stoked for marriage and baby-making and pregnancy and motherhood and all things baby bump since I was like ... seven years old?   Maybe eight.  And in college, I went through this rulllll bad all-consuming mommy fever stage that required my very best friend to regularly snuggle me under his shoulder and give me pep talks about how important it is to make it through college and earn a degree...and THEN get a job and THEN find a husband and THEN start working on the twelve babies.  Priorities. Life goals.  Luckily he always kept mine in check even though he had to be about 110% uninterested in growing/birthing a child...

Fast forward a few years and let me just say one thang: my college self can throw its cute little head back and let out an evil, full-bellied cackle because I had NO IDEA back then [or ever, or even in the beginning of June when I was still non-preggers] how a 1mm-long fertilized egg could rock my world.  It rocked it real hard.

So...

An abbreviated timeline of first trimester:

4w1d -- I pee on a stick [because 4w0d might've been too soon?] and...ooooh baby...positive!  [Not like completely pissing my pants or anything because a) just wasted it all on the stick, and b) kinda nervous about everything that happened the first time... BUT, still excited of course...]

Brian was out of town on a work trip, so all this cliche decor was lovingly left around the house for him to discover when he came home...
Side note:  ^^ that "Dude, You're Gonna Be a DAD!" book is hilarious!! I'm obsessed, and I'm not even the one who's about to be a dad.

Bump pics at 4w and 5w and 6w, because obviously it's already growing and showing. [Ha...ha...ha...slow laugh...] And also, I'm the only pregnant person that ever existed and every minute detail .had.to.be.documented. for all of the world to see and awe over forever and ever amen.
All was joyous and merry in the motherhood world until 7w came along, then bing bam boom. Dreams immediately shot down as bulimic-style around-the-clock cyclical puking ensued.  Brian tried to be sweet and soothing and make it all better, but nothing made it better...
...not even one soda cracker or Zofran q8 or IVs.  Or ANYTHING.

Bridget's the name, growing a feisty embryo's the game. Although probablyyy no one cares about how much of a HOT HOT pukey MESS I was.  But really, four months is a long @$$ time to feel like you have the world's worst case of the stomach flu or are maybe even dying of some kind of terminal illness. [Minor pity party earned.] I ate like a bird and puked like a turkey vulture and mostly just laid on the couch 24/7 trying to sleep a lot and not move at all.  [Sweet Brian told me one time that I looked like a fetus all curled up in a ball with a huge head and a small body. Love him!] And when I had to go to work, I strictly avoided two things: getting stuck in the OR behind a face mask [use your imagination?] and using any of the automatic flush toilets [use your imagination again].  Bah. Gross.

I'll spare you all the other juicy details.

Then all the sudden, the 20-week mark came along and two miracles happened:  I stepped on the scale and was 12 pounds lighter + the puking vanished. Hallelujah, there IS a God after all!!!

The end. [...of first trimester, at least...]

If you're brave enough, I might be penning a PARTE DOS all about the fun times in week 14 and beyond.......  Come on back in a few days for some more preggo fun fun fun!
