- Quilling Through Quarantine -

I've always loved the paper flowers that I've seen other crafty peeps making, and I finally sat down last month and taught myself how to make them!  They are SO fun and so easy [if you have a Cricut at your disposal, that is], and the kids were even able to help me put together the Mother's Day gifts this year for Grammy Resa and Grammy Ann. <3  Paper art quilling for the win!
^^ We loved the Mother's Day shadow boxes so much that we decided to just keep going with gifts for Teacher Appreciation Day, too!  Harper picked out all the flower colors for her teachers' boxes and actually did about 75% of the quilling herself.
As we were driving to Ms. Leah's house that morning, I said, "I hope Ms. Leah likes what we made for her!" to which Harper immediately replied, "She will like it, I already know.  She always loves everything I make her in class." :)

Cheers to mothers and teachers -- AKA a handful of people we love so much and could never get through life without!  We hope you special ladies enjoy looking at your flower boxes for years to come! :)

- COVID Diaries: Week 1 -

[A bellowing]  H E L L O  from the other side!

We're a full ONE week deep into social distancing over here, and holy whoa:  on every level possible, WHAT an unbelievable week it's been!  Here we were 2 weeks ago thinking we wouldn't make it out alive after Daylight Savings Time, a full moon, and Friday the 13th; then, coronavirus reared its ugly head and blew all of that out of the water.  Reacting and adjusting to this has been insane; I honestly can't wrap my mind around the magnitude of all of it and what it means for our country, but with each day that passes I do grow more fearful for "healthcare" as we know it and also anxious for my beloved co-workers and all healthcare workers and first responders across the country.  Oyyyyy vey, these are not good times.

On a more positive note, things at home have been better than ever!  I'm notorious for getting a little stir crazy if I'm stuck inside the house too long, but [so far] I've been very even-keeled and pleasantly surprised with the smooth transition that all 4 of us have made to "sheltering in."  While it's been hard to explain to the kids why school and daycare are closed and we have to stay at home .e.v.e.r.y...s.i.n.g.l.e...d.a.y., I have to commend Harper's teachers for guiding us through this confusing and unprecedented time.  Literally two days after the governor shut down all Illinois schools, I had 2 weeks worth of home learning materials in my e-mail inbox from Harper's teacher.  Between e-mails and Facebook posts and videos, the school teachers and administrators have been so present, caring, and steadfast through all of this.  We definitely feel their love and compassion for the kiddos and can't wait to see them all again soon!  *fingers crossed*

So!  The last week in [not] a nutshell...

Last weekend, we barely squeaked [half of] Harper's birthday festivities in before COVID-19 sh*t hit the fan...

...and Monday was "business as normal" for 3/4 of us with me to work, Brian to work, and Scarlett to daycare.  Harper stayed with Grammy Ann since the schools closed.

Tuesday was St. Patrick's Day, and we made the best of spending it at home this year [which was a TOTAL BUMMER, because we are Dogtown parade patrons through and through!].  We got festive with green eggs and pancakes for lunch!
Tuesday was also Brian's first day working from home, and the kids loved having him here even though he was "off limits" most of the time!

Many neighbors hung shamrocks in their windows so individual families could walk around the subdivision on a shamrock hunt. So fun!  Have I mentioned lately that I love our neighborhood?!  We hung a few in our front windows for other families to find!
Again, thanks to Harper's teachers for the home learning packet and craft materials!
Tuesday evening, we had to take a roadtrip to the rentsies' house to get Brian's large computer monitors so he could set up a better/more practical workspace to actually work from home.  In hindsight, the kids and I probably should've stayed home and sent Brian up solo, but my heart knew this would be one of our last "outings" for a while and it was actually a little sad knowing this was also the last time we'd see all of the grandparents for several weeks, so off we went...  We have stayed connected via FaceTime as the week progressed, but it's definitely not the same as seeing our parents love on our babies in the flesh! :(
On Wednesday, we buckled down on the home learning and Harper worked on color sight words...
...while Scarlett colored her Easter craft from Grammy Ann!  We also constructed an EXTRA large fort to read books in [all 4 of us could get in, yet all 4 of us could not get out without breaking the mold, lol]!
On Friday, we learned about caterpillars and butterflies.  After hearing the word "metamorphosis" [or "mor-fa-meth-a-sis" as Harper called it] for the first time since age 18, I became a little concerned that my home-teaching abilities may max out after the Pre-K level!
^^ After finishing the school worksheets, we made all sorts/shapes of butterfly artwork...
...and also listened to The Very Hungry Caterpillar on YouTube and colored a paper of all the things we thought a veryyyyy hungry caterpillar could eat through.  Here's mine! ;) :)
All of this caterpillar/butterfly schoolwork inspired me to impulse-buy a butterfly farm/growing kit on Amazon.  I think the kids will really enjoy it, though, especially since we're homebound indefinitely and there aren't any other living/growing/metamorphosis-ing activities going on around the house!  If it turns out as I hope, we will be sure to keep you posted with our results!

Saturday was my birthday, so I'll cap it off here and add those photos to COVID Diaries: Week 2.  Stay tuned!

...Also stay healthy.

...ALSO...STAY HOME!!! :)

To be continued...

- Disney: Part I -

Way back when, my parents proposed a WILD idea that, when the house was finished, Brian and I should take Harper to Disney World for a few days.  We were in the thick of construction at that time with an end date that seemed like it would NEVER come, so I laughed it off and said we'd consider it sometime.  Long story short?  Months passed.  Stars aligned.  And with an AMAZING amount of organization and planning and all-around wonderfulness from my cousin Laura at It's A Small World Adventures.....

...we found ourselves on a shuttle to the airport...
...and boarding a plane that was headed to Orlando...
...because -- what what? -- this lucky princess and her two crazy parents are actually truly really DISNEY BOUND!!!
As part of their original plot, my parents kept Scarlett at their house for the 5 nights/4 days we were gone.  Part of my momma heart shattered at the thought of leaving her behind [surely she would enjoy Disney, too?!], but as soon as we arrived at Hollywood Studios on the first day with one very active 4-year-old who didn't require daily naps and bi-hourly snacks, I knew it was the best decision!  Our first FastPass there was at the Voyage of The Little Mermaid, and I may or may not've teared up midway through the show at the sight of our baby girl smiling from ear to ear while experiencing the true magic of Disney [...and to think, this show was just the tip of the iceberg that would foreshadow all the other exciting events to come].  The light and sound effects were all so amazing, and I don't know, I guess it just brought back such fond memories and flashbacks of being at Disney with my family when I was a kid.  To be a momma now and be able to watch all the magic through my child's eyes was a feeling I'll never forget!
^^ After The Little Mermaid, we also did the Frozen Sing-Along and Muppet Vision 3D shows that morning, which of course Sister Mouse thought were the coolest things ever.
While the shows were already a huge hit, we weren't sure how Little Miss would do with the rides...
...but Toy Story Land did NOT disappoint...
...and the Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania rides were quite a thrill for the 2/3 of us who don't mind spinning/swirling rides!  [Still a little dizzy just thinking about it!]
Harper started getting tired around 3pm, so we rented a stroller to save her some steps. Soon after, she and I parked our booties inside the Beauty and the Beast theater for a rest while Brian went on a few of the bigger rides solo.  She had alllllmost drifted off to sleep in my arms when the fireworks boomed to signal the start of the show, which triggered her to shoot up wide-eyed and participate in the performance with excitement.  Harper's the name, NO NAPPING's the game!
With a stroller and a snack under her belt, ain't nothin' that can put baby in the corner now!!!  This wild girl is a mini-Energizer Bunny!
As we were thinking this place couldn't get any better, night fell and the park came to life with special Christmas decorations and lights and "snow" [which I thought was really neat, but Harper was quick to exclaim, "Mommy, that snow is pretty but I think those are just bubble snowflakes and not real snow!"].
The Tower of Terror was lit up as a gingerbread house, and there were festive decorations in EVERY direction we turned!  Now that the sun was down, we cracked our pre-packed Dollar Tree glowsticks [#momwin] and purchased a Little Mermaid music-playing/light-up/bubble-blowing super fancy wand from the park [#dadwin ...and that right there explains why he's #alwaysthefavoriteparent].  Then, Brian and I switched off riding the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster with some last-minute FastPasses that Laura scored as Harper [im]patiently waited for Fantasmic to start at 8pm...
...and then thatttttt, unsurprisingly, turned out to be quite fantastic fantasmic!  Seeing our favorite princesses close up on a boat was so great!
Considering we arrived to the park at 8:30am and had been on our feet for a full 12+ hours at this point, we were thinking Harper might be ready to go home.  But nope! No, no, nope... She plopped down in her stroller and voted to head toward the center stage for another fireworks and music show at 9pm...
...followed by MORE RIDES inside Toy Story Land!  People were flocking out of the park after the fireworks, so between 9-10pm was when we really got to enjoy the park without 60-120 minute lines at all the rides.  And THEN...drumroll...Laura let us know that we could still ride Slinky Dog Dash roller coaster as long as we were standing *in* the line by 10pm, so at 9:59 we coasted in...
...and came out on a HUGE high to end the night!  I was so worried Harper would get on the ride and not like it, but [one month later!] she still reports it to family and friends as her favorite memory of the day!

We made it back to the hotel shortly before 11pm [just in time to order a pizza before the resort's delivery service closed!] and FaceTimed Sissy to say goodnight.  The chipper little night owl was happier than ever to see us appear on the screen, and the feeling was mutual!  We missed her so much but knew she was having the time of her life back at home with Grammy and Papa! <3
Approximately 45 seconds after inhaling an XL cheese pizza, we all three exchanged our park clothes for PJs and melted into our king-sized bed.   So! Exhausted!  But also so thrilled that day 1 was a huge hit and soooo excited for everything else that is to come in the next few days!!!

[Stay tuned for Disney: Part II -- coming soon!]

- HBD, Grammy! -

'Tis the season for roasting marshmallows over bonfires...
...taking hayrides through the yard...
...and of course, celebrating GRAMMY ANN'S BIRTHDAY!

She was the lucky recipient of lots of special things -- including a marshmallow/pretzel goat hand-crafted by Harper + a few Destin goodies to remember our beach vacation in September!

Happy birthday, Grammy Ann! We love you!

- Cecilia Clare & Co: Daddy Day -

...I said it alllll here, so I won't waste yo' time rehashing everything again...

But! Cheers to a new year with no new beginnings; Christmas 2.0 lives on and on and on!

Happy Father's Day, Brian!!! We love you!
Harper entered a drawing in her daycare's Father's Day contest, and she was a winna' winna' chicken dinna'!!! She scored a book out of the deal and was practically doing cartwheels in excitement to tell Brian what she'd won.

Kisses and hugs and Father's Day love to each of the fathers and grandfathers in our lives who we adore! You love us so well, and we are blessed by you! :)
