- Sick and stay-cating and then sick some more -

Oh, hall-oooo.

It's been a bit!

We've been just barely staying afloat ova' here; basically our entire winter season has consisted of groggily going through the motions...punily pushing through day by day...persistently praying that we can just keep our heads above water high enough for our pupils to see the light of the next weekend dawning so we can rest up and recoup a teeny bit before diving in to a new week full speed ahead.  Phew!  Mannnnn. I don't know if Harper goes to daycare and licks the damn floor or WHAT, but the poor child has [more or less] been ailed with some degree of disease since October, and the continual sickness swirling through this house is no joke.  NO. JOKE.

Anyway!  Sickness aside, January still produced a few archive-worthy things [something! There's always something!] and I would love nothing more than to subject you to a play-by-play that is sure to lull you right into a peaceful post-dinner nap. *zzz emoji*

Brian has been tirelessly working on Harper's playroom in the basement, and it's really starting to look nice! He has the chalkboard wall finished and the playhouse is 78% of the way done; we just set up the kitchen from Great Aunt Stephanie and Great Uncle Mark, and turns out that Harper is quite the chef! ;)  She really enjoys boiling hot plastic pots of water and also nosing in to help her Dad lay the rubber floor mats.  She is crawling everywhere and into everything and I just can't get enough of how FUN and interactive she is these days!  More posts [many, many more, muahahah] of the finished playroom and all Brian's handicraft to come!
In much less exciting news, Harper Cecilia is the owner of TWO new big girl car seats...  For like 3.7 seconds, we thought we would just buy one seat and transfer it back and forth between our cars, then HAHAH no.  We had our picks narrowed down to Britax Marathon and Graco 4ever and [thanks to a few friends' genius recommendations] decided it would be best to try Harper in them and see which one was the best fit for her.  And Target baby sale for the win!!!
Dude lovesss to shop! She daintily browsed the clearance clothes rack while Brian and I furiously finished our decision-making process by iPhoning a few last car seat reviews...  Britax Marathon got the blue ribbon!
Wow this post is horrible.  I'll turn it up a notch, because I'm totally realizing that playroom construction and car seat shopping might've just set a new record for lowest of low posts [my blogging game is soooo rusty]...

...so drifting into a much more exhilarating topic...

...THE BACHELOR!!! Please tell me I'm not the only one who lives vicariously through trashy TV? Oh, good. So... Oh hey, Ben. Can we just talk about how sweet, genuine, charming, sensitive, funny, attractive, caring, and all-around-wonderful Ben is?!? Seriously, he is a legit dude. I've been a VERY loyal member of Bachelor Nation since Jill's season [showing my age, I know], and...not to jump the gun...but we're pretty far into Ben's journey to find love and I'm pretty confidently thinking that this might be the greatest season of all.  And these episodes have me on edge more than ever, because there's this Bachelor Bracket that a bunch of nurses have going at work [and $$$ is on the line!]...and I'm falling behind and I just don't understand because...#bachelorfanatic and I thought I was right inside Ben's brain and had things all figured out...
My pick for "The One" is Joelle, though I think Lauren B. is also a strong contender and Becca will probs be second runner-up... Caila is like a little vixen that just strikes a weird chord in me [goodbye, you won't be missed] and who else is left??? Oooo yeah, Amanda and Emily...they're the next two goners fo sho.

[If you think I'm crazy, well, maybe you're right...but let me halfway redeem myself by blabbing that Brian is just as cray. He was eager to fill out his own Bachelor Bracket, and when asked if he wanted to be part of the nurse pool, his response?  "Oh no, this is a husband/wife bracket... There's MUCH MORE at stake than a $5 entry fee."  Whaaaatever that means, I don't even know...but I just hope I pull ahead and don't have to find out! ;) I'm currently winning the husband/wife pool by 3 points so! Pray for me, friends. Pray rull hard.  And speaking of Brian... When I was hopelessly-romantically gushing about Ben's personality and charm during the very first episode, Brian piped right in and [very seriously] said, "I know, he actually reminds me a lot of myself!"  Ok, baby. Ok. :) ;) :-*]

Harper loves Bachelor Ben, too, but sometimes she just can't hang..........until there are like ten minutes left of the Bachelor Live talkshow and she's like, "PSYCHHH, it's 10:30pm and I'm full speed ahead!" ...We're having some bedtime issues up in this place. *sigh*
I think I'm jumping right back into my rambling rut, what do you think?  Feels like I never even took a hiatus. ;)

Brian and my Dad both took a skiing/snowboarding vacation the last week of January [not together! Brian in Colorado, Dad in Canada], so naturallyyyy the baby and I packed up for a little 4 day stay-cation at Grandma's! Dude wasn't spoiled or anything... Sleeping in til late hours of the morning on flannel sheets and taking luxurious baths with new bath toys in the kitchen sink....
...learning to play the piano like Mommy and Grammy!...
...and hanging out with her favorite person 24/7... [I'm surprised she even came home with me at the end of all this!]  My mom went to a funeral that afternoon and I had to remind her to take Harper's pink bow out of her hair before she left the house... :)
On the night Dad came home, we invited Grandma and Grandpa over for dinner and had a little fiesta! Love these memories we're making of Harper with her grandparents and great-grandparents!  What a lucky little lady. <3
Andddd before we knew it, Brian's vacation was over, too, and he was back home to play! Harper had a few new tricks to show her daddy when he got home: standing up by the railing (!!) and she alsoooo discovered her closet and the hours of fun that lie inside those sealed doors............... Hey-o, Daddy-o, come see what's inside here!
Alright, fo rizzle, this post is getting out of control even for the heartiest of hearty readers.  If you find it in the kindness of your hearts, please pray for us and our sickly selves!  Harper accompanied me to my first ever Urgent Care visit last week [double ear infections! Amoxicillin horse pills x 10 days, rawr.]
...and I took her to the pediatrician yesterday [also has double ear infections! Yummy strawberry Amoxicillin liquid x 10 days + more antibiotic eye drops for her green boogery eyes, double rawr.]  But negative RSV swab, praise the sweet Lord for that. And Brian's on the verge of flu slash sinusitis too, but he hasn't been to the doctor in 20 years and also claims he's "never had a prescription in his entire life," so why start now?  Hashtag: men.  With your prayers and a little binge of warm weather, I am trusting we'll be back on the mend soon and also be able to open some doors and windows and air all germs right out of this house.

Winter 2015-16: 1  .......  Fleming fam: 0

A plethora of green snotty coughs and kisses from us to you! :-* :-*

Xoxo, bye now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
Yesh yeshhh, we're well aware that we're raising a night-owlish monster in this house so it was no surprise that Harper Bear sailed right on through midnight like enn bee dee.  And also like enn bee dee, she stole my main man and my ball-drop kiss SO!  I already see how this year is gonna go.....

Dude partied so hard on NYE that she slept right through Grandma's New Year's brunch!
...But finally got it together mid-afternoon and snapped back into action: 1:10 pm and she's already poundin' the bottle. ;)
Cheers, cheers, and MORE CHEERS to 2015 being the best year yet!  I never imagined how great marriage and parenthood and family life could be until the Bear appeared and changed both of our lives forever.

Bring it on, 2016; we are so excited to see what blessings you will bring!

Happy New Year, sweet friends and family! :)

- Goodbye, Christmas... -

We took the tree and all the Christmas decor down today.  *sniff sniff*  Usually by the time New Year's Day rolls around, I'm sooo ready to pack everything back up and get my house back in order by sweeping all the glitter and magic away until next year; but today, I have to say I was sad to see it all go.  I guess it took a little longer to get in the Christmas spirit with 60-70 degree temps all December...plus Thanksgiving was later than normal this year and cut into the Christmas season...  But mainly I think I'm sad because motherhood has turned me into a sick sap and this year was just so much more special than all the rest.  It's true what they say:  the holidays are so much more magical with a child! <3

But anyway! Jumping off the box of my boo-hooing sob story...  The blog cannot move on without archiving a few favorite new decorations/ornaments we adorned the tree with in 2015!
Harper's handiwork... :)
Pic on the right: an ornament from one of our patients! I will think of her fondly every year when I hang this ornament.
Pic on the left:  Hallmark Keepsake from Great Grandma and Great Grandpa.  And pic on the right: more of Harper's Christmas crafting!

My parents have all kinds of things on their tree that my brother and I proudly made throughout the years, and now that I'm starting a family of my own I realize how special that is! Can't wait to watch our tree grow and grow with gaudy homemade ornaments!

Christmas 2015, you will go down in the memory books as the best holiday ever! :)

- Away in a manger... -

...lah tee dah, lah tee dahhhh, and that's as far as we got.

I would've never thrived as a Native American because the story-telling aspect of oral tradition is FAR from my strong suit, BUT...with good-hearted mothering effort I made an attempt this year to sit down with Harper and dub down "the Christmas story" into infantile terms.  She got this awesome nativity set as a baptism gift from her Godparents...
...and I thought it would be the perfect learning tool to start forming her Christian identity by explaining the life of JC.

I was flipping through a kids' Christmas picture book we had [so as not to forget any big details of the story, obviously] and going on and on and on and onnnnn about Mary and Joseph's trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem...

...finding no room in the inn...

...Mary giving birth to Jesus in a stable...

...Jesus laying in a manger while the animals kept him warm...

...the angel announcing to the shepherds that a Savior had been born...

...when finally I glanced up and noticed the angel had been plucked off his perch on the stable and the wise man's camel was getting an unsolicited slobber shampoo.  Not to mention the Baby Jesus figurine was no where to be found [later uncovered in a wad of dust bunnies under the couch] and oh em gee I thought we were gonna have to cancel Christmas.
*sigh*

I guess her interest piqued early on during the long-winded explanation of Roman Empire's tax census.

Maybe next year. :)

But seriously, thank you Blake and Laura for this awesome gift!! We have wise men and animals strewn about the house because Harper carries them everywhere, and I'm currently eying Mary across the kitchen table on Harper's highchair with dried pancakes crusted to her veil.

Oh, sweet Mary, pray for us!

And Jesus, hang in there... We'll get your birth story across to our offspring before next Christmas! ;)

- Fa-la-la-la-la...la-laaa-la-laaaaaa -

Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!

Just kidding.

We may not've scored a White Christmas this year, but Ding Dong Merrily On High, this sure was a Holly Jolly Christmas and we'll be singing its praises for dayssss to come!!!

O Holy Night at Christmas Eve Mass! Harper got a "B-" for behavior during church [excessive squirming and shoe kicking + ingested a whole tub of graham cracker chunks to minimize squawking + pulled three sequins off her dress as I pretended to not notice but was internally screaming OH EM GEE What Child Is This? ????......though she stayed well above a "C" courtesy of no meltdowns and thankfully no pooping].  We even got to meet our new little friend Zella afterwards!  These two could be a dangerous combo in a few years [but right now, Do They Even Know It's Christmas?] ;)  Sort of sad that these are the only two pics I have of Harper in her Christmas dress... :(
...but off with the dress and on with the party! O Come All Ye Faithful; it's time for the first round of family and food and fellowship and fun!
Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer?  No way; she's right here! Great Gram loves her little Santa Baby!
Up at the crack of dawn because Christians Awake: it be time for breakfast and presents and more Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree!
Oh snap, It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas up in hurrrr...  I think Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town!
...Correction: Santa Claus has BEEN to town! Holy schnikes.
Merry, Merry Christmas Baby.
As Harper ripped open gift after gift after gift, Brian just stared down lovingly like, "All I Want For Christmas Is You!"  Ha...ha...ha...slow laugh...
Then Here We C[a]me A-Wassailing to Christmas #3...
Merry Christmas Darling! :)
MORE PRESENTS?!? Zomggg, joy joy joy joy Joy to the World!!!!!
Feels so great to always be Home For The Holidays!
Good Christian Men Rejoice about whaaaat??? Oh, it's Christmas #4!
I Saw Three Ships..... Jay to the kay, I saw three hundred million gifts juuuust for me! :)
Daddy, Do You Hear What I Hear? That puppy sings!!!  And Mary, Did You Know that [aside from all the presents] we still do love and honor your little baby boy?! :)
Harper be like, "I Wonder As I Wander.....could there possibly be any toys left at the North Pole?"
And then...after THREE jam-packed days of fun...

...finally a zonked out baby who gave her Mommy and Daddy a peaceful, Silent Night. :)

This is definitely The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!  Hope ya'll remembered to Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas!
