- Piano Recital -

Harper's first piano recital is innnn the books!  Back when I was a kid and had to perform at recitals, I had a nervous stomach ALL DAY leading up to the event; then, when it was my turn to play, my hands were so sweaty I could hardly keep my fingers on the right keys. But not Harper! This girl has no nerves; she marched straight up to the piano at the front of the gym [and in front of a rather large audience, too!] and played her two songs without hesitation. Kids these days.................they just keep makin' 'em better and better!

It was a wonderful first year [or 9 months, more like] of lessons; I was prepped for hearing loud clunking coming from our keyboard for many many years, but she does have quite a nice touch and rhythm and it's been a very pleasant surprise! I love hearing her play and hope she continues for the rest of her life!

Congrats on crushing your first recital, Harper!

- Mom's Day -

Nothing screams, "Mother's Day Weekend!" like shopping for and planting all the annual flowers...

...painting the pantry [AKA cracking down on the honey-do list]...

...and carving out an abundant amount of time to celebrate all of the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and Godmothers that we are SO LUCKY to love!

All I "requested" for Mother's Day was that we get to Mass 25 minutes early to say the Rosary [led by parishioners during the month of May] and also that the kids get along well and there was no arguing all day when we got home. And...what what??! Whaddya know.......... We arrived to church halfway through the first decade [which I definitely consider a win] and the kids got along SO WELL all afternoon and evening and even put themselves to bed together in the top bunk without fussing/complaining/crying for someone to lay down with them!  All I wanna know is: can it be Mother's Day again tomorrow?!?

...No, no, apparently it can't... Harper and I locked horns after school about her terrible listening skills on Monday evening and I found this lovely note on her dresser Tuesday morning after she left for school.

Sigh, motherhood. It's always a joy, isn't it? LOL.

All I know is God really broke the mold when creating the hearts of women. So CHEERS to the world's best nurturers, protectors, supporters and unconditional lovers -- AKA ALL THE MOTHERS! We are blessed by your love. <3

- Pet Show-N-Tell -

As the school year is winding down, the kids' excitement level is winding UP! Because...SO. MANY. FUN. THINGS. are on the horizon!  Harper was over the moon when the flyer came home announcing 2nd grade Pet Show-N-Tell and excitedly exclaimed, "Mom! We got a puppy JUST in time!"  When the anticipated day finally rolled around [which was also "R: Rainbow Day" for the ABC countdown to the end of the school year], Arabella was happy to be in attendance and made many new friends...

...including but not limited to a goat, a few tadpoles, a handful of chickens, a couple bowls of fish, a crew of cats, MANY dogs that were easily 20 times her size, and, of course, about 25 smitten second graders!

When it was Harper's turn to share, she excitedly took her prized puppy to the middle of the circle to tell every detail she could think of about her new pet.

Special thanks to Mrs. Roberts for continuing such a fun annual event!!! It was definitely a PAW-some time!

Then! As if Arabella didn't get enough action during the day, a few more hours passed by and it was time to return to school to pick up her big sisters! This is her absolute favorite time of the weekdays: watching for her sisters to walk out from school and then being reunited with them for the rest of the afternoon and evening! <3

Bella Boo: "My sisters are coming home and it's almost summer break! LET'S PAW-TY"

- Muffins with Moms -

Muffins with Moms [for the second year in a row!] was nothing short of time well spent with the sweetest little preschooler in the whole entire world!  After sharing muffins and milk, we got to paint a birdhouse together...then hear a very special song the kiddos prepared for us...

...and then go outside for a release of the butterflies that the class has been raising this spring!
It was so great to spend a little quality time with Scarlett and see her totally thriving in the classroom environment and with all of her adorable little preschool friends!  Nothing beats seeing your children happy; I'm a lucky momma! <3

- Ear Jewelz -

Ok, so BLAST FROM THE PAST, and #tbt [which instead of throwback Thursday, I actually mean throw back the TABLES because holy hot minute!] to Harper's ear piercing in December 2020!  Before allowing her to go through with this, I had done some research on ear piercing with sterilized hollow needles at a tattoo parlor vs. with a piercing gun at the mall and 1000% wanted to go the hollow needle route for the boasted benefits of "less tissue trauma, shorter healing time, and overall more hygienic piercing procedure"...

...so off to the local tattoo parlor we went!  Harper wanted all of us to watch her, but upon arrival we found out Brian and Scarlett had to wait in the car because of COVID restrictions.  But! After signing her life away and being a super brave 5-year-old...

...we were back out to the car boasting a brand new set of ear jewels in no time!

Then! Weeks went by, and 24/7 masking mandates at school and grocery stores and anywhere we went in public continued, and unfortunately, both of Harper's ears got infected. From the beginning, we had been cleaning the piercings frequently [before and after school and also before bedtime for months!] and kept the mask strings off whenever possible; but, eventually the infection won over and large abcesses formed behind both ears.  Around Easter time, our pediatrician took one look at them and said the earrings had to come out and the holes had to close [and we later found out from the culture she collected that it was staph!].  Harper was not only in a spiraling state of panic and pain anytime anyone came near her ears, but now devastated that she lost her beautiful earrings.

[Needless to say, through months of this traumatic experience, Scarlett watched wide-eyed from afar and very frequently said she was "NEVA' EVA'" getting her ears pierced!]

More months passed, and Harper began making paper earrings and taping them to her [now healed] ears. She begged and begged to get them pierced again; and finally, Brian and I gave in mid-summer. So! In late July 2021, we gave it a go again...this time at the pediatrician's office [because at least if it wasn't a hollow needle, it was still maybe a better shot at a "more hygienic piercing procedure?"].  The piercing was successful, and a-now-6-year-old Harper was thrilled!  We went to Annie's Frozen Custard to celebrate!

After Scarlett spent 2 years recovering from the PTSD of observing Harper's infected ear ordeal, she had a change of heart and started begging for some ear jewelry of her own!  So mid-April 2023, we went back to the pediatrician's office and did it again!  She invited Grammy Ann to come for the festivities...

...and then out for a treat at Annie's to celebrate!

Loving all the ear jewels in the house! Let the fun of shopping for Scarlett's earrings begin! :D

- This is the day the the LORD has made! -

Not my personal writing, but I wanted to start this post off with an ancient homily on Holy Saturday that I loved reading and reflecting on this year while I [and the whole earth!] waited in silence and stillness for Easter Sunday:

“Something strange is happening – there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. God has died in the flesh and hell trembles with fear.

He has gone to search for our first parent, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow the captives Adam and Eve, he who is both God and the son of Eve. The Lord approached them bearing the cross, the weapon that had won him the victory. At the sight of him, Adam, the first man he had created, struck his breast in terror and cried out to everyone: “My Lord be with you all.” Christ answered him: “And with your spirit.” He took him by the hand and raised him up, saying:

“Awake, O sleeper, and rise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.

“I am your God, who for your sake have become your son. Out of love for you and for your descendants I now by my own authority command all who are held in bondage to come forth, all who are in darkness to be enlightened, all who are sleeping to arise.

“I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be held a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead. Rise up, work of my hands, you who were created in my image. Rise, let us leave this place, for you are in me and I am in you; together we form only one person and we cannot be separated. For your sake I, your God, became your son; I, the Lord, took the form of a slave; I, whose home is above the heavens, descended to the earth and beneath the earth.

“For your sake, for the sake of man, I became like a man without help, free among the dead. For the sake of you, who left a garden, I was betrayed to the Jews in a garden, and I was crucified in a garden.

“See on my face the spittle I received in order to restore to you the life I once breathed into you. See there the marks of the blows I received in order to refashion your warped nature in my image. On my back see the marks of the scourging I endured to remove the burden of sin that weighs upon your back. See my hands, nailed firmly to a tree, for you who once wickedly stretched out your hand to a tree.

“I slept on the cross and a sword pierced my side for you who slept in paradise and brought forth Eve from your side. My side has healed the pain in yours. My sleep will rouse you from your sleep in hell. The sword that pierced me has sheathed the sword that was turned against you.

“Rise, let us leave this place. The enemy led you out of the earthly paradise. I will not restore you to that paradise, but I will enthrone you in heaven. I forbade you the tree that was only a symbol of life, but see, I who am life itself am now one with you. I appointed cherubim to guard you as slaves are guarded, but now I make them worship you as God.

“The throne formed by cherubim awaits you, its bearers swift and eager. The bridal chamber is adorned, the banquet is ready, the eternal dwelling places are prepared, the treasure houses of all good things lie open. The kingdom of heaven has been prepared for you from all eternity.”

From the second reading in the Office of Readings for Holy Saturday, in the Breviary (citing Migne PG 43, 439, 451, 462-463).

Awake, O sleeper... Gooooodness, what an unfathomable blessing it is to love and be loved by our Lord, the new Adam!  Could go on and on forever about this, but I'll spare you all today. ;) :)

On Holy Saturday, we celebrated Easter with Brian's family!  There is really no place our girls would rather be than with all their cousins, so it goes without saying that cousins + chocolate on a nice, sunshiny day was a real treat!

And then, at some point while the children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar plums danced in their heads, the Easter Bunny came!!! We realized that morning that we forgot to leave carrots out, so the kids were very relieved that he still came anyway! Hopefully he forgives us! ;) :)

Arabella loved her first Easter and was not mad about her basket full of goodies from E.B.!

Juliette realized this year that her eggs were full of chocolate and other sugary treats, and no Easter will ever be the same again................
Since the first child popped out of bed at 6:23am [*cough Scarlett*] and proceeded to wake up the rest of the sisters ^^, there was PLENTY of time to go through the Easter baskets, do the egg hunt, open each Easter egg and marvel over the contents, cook/devour a gourmet breakfast, and still make it to 10:15am Mass with plenty of time to spare!

Because...what what??! He is risen, just as He said!!! I'm not a crier, but I embarrassingly blinked back a few tears during the gathering song as I looked around the church and acknowledged how privileged we are celebrate the greatest love story of all time alongside friends, classmates, and parishioners who have become family!

A beautiful Mass in a beautiful church with beautiful friends worshipping alongside us.  Surely God gave us a tiny glimpse of the kingdom to come today!

Then! After Mass, we were off to celebrate Easter with my side of the fam.  Had to stop by home and grab Bella Boo, of course! :)

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Happy Easter, friends!  We are praying for you; please pray for us, too!
