- Out of the mouth of babes: VOL XVI -

Three days after having a flu shot, randomly:
"When you die do you still have to get flu shots in Heaven?"

After studying Christopher Columbus at school:
"He kept sailing and sailing and sailing and they had no airplanes so it took a hundred days.  Then they came to a beautiful island and then they got out there and had a happily beautiful day!  And then they stayed there for a hundred years, anyway..."

While driving to Grammy and Papa's:
Me:  "Look at all the beautiful trees!"
Harper:  "Yeah, but soon they'll be naked!"

Before Halloween:
Harper:  "Alexa, has there been any punkins that light up on their own at Halloween?"
Alexa:  "I'm sorry, I'm not sure."

Before school one morning:
"I think Sissy laid on the wrong side of the bed because she woke up realllllly cranky!"

While circling her wish list in the Amazon catalog:
"Will Santa give me all the things I want?"

As Brian was [very proudly] laying the very last tile on the kitchen backsplash:
"Daddy's wall looks HORRIBLE right now because of all that dust and splatters and mess and stuff..."

While watching a Christmas movie:
Me:  "There's Mrs. Claus!"
Harper:  "How do you know her name?"
Me:  "It's Santa's wife."
Harper:  "Wait! He's married?!? Why doesn't he have a ring on then?"

During dinner:
Harper:  "Daddy, did you know that Bridget has an ex-boyfriend?! It was before I was born! And his name is ____!"
Brian:  "Interesting..."

Randomly during December:
"Has Santa ever been sick and missed Christmas?"

Before bedtime:
"Mommy!  If you touch Twinkle Toes's hat, he still moves at night time!  Isn't THAT incredible for our elf?!  'Cause I'm sure no one else's elf does that."

On Christmas Eve:
"Where was Santa born?  And what about the Easter Rabbit?"

On Christmas morning:
"The milk is gone...the cookies are gone...there are two notes and A MILLION presents!!!"

As she pulled more cheetah attire out of her stocking:
"I have been wanting a cheetah shirt for years!!!"

On the first snow day of the year [in February]:
"I can't believe we're having a snow day and it's not on Christmas Eve!"

- SO LONG, 2020! -

2 0 2 0 : You've been A YEAR!

But amidst the uncertainties, we've definitely reveled in our extra family time and focused on finding joy in the small things. A lot of great things still happened this year, and I think that's worth celebrating as we ring in the New Year!

3...2...1...HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cheers, friends!

- A COVID Christmas -

From doing early gifts with Great Grammy Penny + Great Papa Jim and a Christmas crafting "day out" with Breanna...

...to opening gifts with Grammy Resa + Papa Mark...

...[including but not limited to a tumbling mat for Harper, roller skates for Sissy, and a sushi making kit for Brian!]...

...the kids had a lot to play with in the few days before Christmas even came!!!

We decided last minute to dismiss the COVID-fear-bullet and sign up for Christmas Eve Mass, which required a last minute Christmas shoe-shopping spree!  Luckily we hit the jackpot at Shoe Carnival and were in and out in no time...

...and juuuuust in the nick of time to get home and ready for Mass!

^^ No obligatory photo with the Christmas decor inside the church this year since they were ushering people out immediately so as to have plenty of time to sanitize the church for the next Mass.  But!  The kids didn't mind; we were back at home with plenty of time to play with new toys and get the Christmas cookie plate ready for Santa!

Late on on Christmas Eve, we found out the kids were exposed to COVID a few days prior, so that was a one-way ticket to a quarantined Christmas Day at home.  We enjoyed opening gifts from Santa in the morning...

...and a little FaceTime session with Brian's family whose Christmas celebration we missed! :(

When a 10-day quarantine phase ended, Brian's parents invited us down for New Year's Eve.  Another big gift exchange and a fance New Year's celebration did not disappoint!!!

And justlikethat, we were chanting, "3.....2.....1.....HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!"   Cheers to 2021! May it be full of health and family and void of COVID!

**********

[Three months late, but always better late than never in my book!]

THREE years ago, our sweet Sissy made her grand debut!  In some ways, it seems like no time has passed at all and I can't come to grips with the fact that so much time has already flashed by; in other ways, it seems like she's been here forever because I don't even remember life before loving her!  HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYYY to our little puppy-loving pal!   Scarlett, you are the newest and cutest 3-year-old on the block; you bring so much light and joy to our family, and we love you more than you'll ever know!   We had a blast celebrating your puppy-themed birthday dinner [COVID style with just a pinch of family!]...
