- Dirty THIRTY! -

...from the beginning!

I was scheduled for PTO on my birthday, so I slyly assumed I'd be successful in brushing my 30th birthday riiiight under the rug...
...but nope! Those crazy co-workers; they'll getcha every time!  I clocked into work on my "birthday eve" to a day of craziness, and I can't even say I was mad about it.  Gifts and lunch and even a very special [very small] visitor to top it off?!  30 isn't shaping up to be so bad, after all!  Love these gals and their hearts of gold. <3
We put the [water-filled] wine goblet riiiiight to use that evening:
The next day started with boisterous "HAPPY BIRTTTTHDAY" singing followed by pancakes and a pile of gifts. Harper was so excited to watch me open a pair of sunglasses and a porcelain blue cereal bowl that she picked out at Target "for our apples" [??]!  And then...*drumroll*...A NEW MACBOOK PRO!!!!!! The good ole' laptop from 2009 had been circling the drain for years and was just seconds away from taking the final plunge, so it goes without saying that I was SO SO excited when I opened this new jewel!  Thank youuuuu, Brian!!! Best. Birthday. Ever.
After breakfast, Grammy arrived and we quickly dashed out.  Just the two of us...on a DAY DATE [!!!]...picking out lights and countertops for the new house...YAS PLZ. Best birthday ever is getting even better!
[More to come on this later!]
Menards was the final afternoon stop, and I enjoyed a short nap in the furniture section while Brian shopped for little electrical things and gas line fitments [?]... #thisis30
Then!  Home for Dewey's pizza and strawberry jello poke cake [beautifully and lovingly baked and iced by a very proud 4-year-old].
Scarlett isn't mad about all these springtime birthdays and the sugary goods that come along with them!
Oh man, I'm exhausted just trying to recount all these festivities! I feel like I've finally hit the age that I used to think was "SO OLD!" ...But it's not really 30 if I still feel 20, #amiright?!  I'm a little bit wrinklier, but also quite a bit wiser; and I wouldn't erase the life lessons I've learned or re-route the road I've walked to get where I stand today for anything!  Special thanks to my co-workers [AKA my second family] for the fully-decorated office followed by lunch on my birthday eve, and of course to my [real] family for all the spoiling and fun times as I celebrated THIRTY!!!

This life is a treasure and I'm blessed beyond measure!

- Irish[ish] -

OY VEY, IT'S ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!! Things have changed a bitty bit since the good 'ole days when I inhabited an apartment on the hottest corner of the St. Pat's Day parade:
But! Even though our life with kids has changed our green-beer-drinking habits juuuuust a bitty bit, ain't nobody gonna tell us that we can't still don everything GREEN and boast our Irish[ish]ness!

This is green...

...that is green...

...green is green is everything!  ...Even down to the poor little fading bruise on Sissy's cheek. :(
We spent the holiday hanging with lots of our favorite people while Daddy worked hard at the new house!
Harper was extra anxious to dish out a few giant PINCHES, but after scouring everyone up and down there were no green-less grinches to be found!
We especially loved having dinner with our favorite [full-blooded] Irish matriarch!
Happy St. Pat's!!!

- Winter a la Casa -

There hasn't been a lot of "visual progress" -- for lack of a better term -- at the new house since the installation of windows and doors back in December/January, but worry not! Brian and his dad + brothers have been hard at work juuuuust about every Friday/Saturday/Sunday from sun-up to sun-down, and things arrrrre a happenin'!

[January 2019]
We took a mini-roadtrip to Menards one weeknight to scoop up a ton of can lights...
...and then Brian was back at the house bright and early the next weekend to begin installing them all!  The girls and I were grateful for a little bit of sunshine and warm[ish] weather so we could enjoy the outdoors while Daddy worked the day away.  [Februrary 2019]
Throughout February, there was plenty of construction to be done on the front porch...
...and the [future] fireplace...
...and, well, everywhere, actually!
One evening, we took a very rare opportunity to go on a date and look at lights and pick out paint colors and hash out the ins and outs of allllll the finishing touches. Drink, is drinking, drank, has drunjk [see what I did there?!]...  Jay to the kay, but really, I [and our marriage!] am so grateful for an occasional kid-free evening amidst all this craziness to argue over past perfect participles and paint colors! Beige or grey or maybe just greige...?  All I know is:  #moremargaritasplease!

^^ As the winter weather permits, the kids are always eager to get to the house and "help Daddy" -- but they mostly just enjoy playing in the construction mess while he works!

And finally...*drumrollllll*... March 1 showed its beautiful face and the veryyyyy long and tedious job of electrical wiring began!
We are so thankful for Brian's dedication; I really can't even believe he wanted to build us a freaking HOUSE from ground up, but he took on the challenge like a boss and is knocking out projects left and right like a champ.  It's even crazier to think that someday -- and not toooo far off -- we'll be moving into this shack!

Wahhh! :o

Stay tuned for more "pretty progress" in the next couple of months!

- Mommin' REAL hard... -

...'cause Mommin' IS hard!

I'm not sure if I have a foggy memory or if my mom just always had her sh*t together [likely the latter], but one of my earliest childhood memories is going to all these laid back "coffees" at her friends' houses.  All the moms would be sitting in the dining room by a coffee cake with perfectly drizzled frosting and sipping their steaming coffees, and the kids would dart off into the living room or basement and play the day away.  We would go home when it was time for lunch and naps.  Then, every night, my mom would prepare a home-cooked dinner that was piping hot when my dad walked through the door at 5:15pm.  He would give her a kiss on the lips and a couple butt squeezes juuuuust to get a rise out of my brother and me, and then we would all sit down and have dinner together.

ANYWAY...where was I going with this?! Oh, yes.  So I was thinking back on all of these picture-perfect childhood memories the other day and realizing:  my current life state of chaos is not mirroring this at all!!!  I love our sweet babies more than life itself, but!  Where are all the cool moms that host those "coffees?!"  I realize my fluctuating states of sanity have a lot to do with Brian building the house and usually being gone and all, but some days are soooo long and the battles are soooo many and my patience wears soooo thin; and then I walk into a situation like this, and ohhhhhhhhhh, my Lawd...  SOMEONE, SEND HELP!!!  #icanteven
^^ There just isn't enough coffee or margaritas [make that coffee AND margaritas] to diffuse this!  I mean, I honestly have no idea how this could all get accomplished in a not-that-long amount of time, but I suppose 'tis life with a three-year-old threenager packrat and I'll just shrug my shoulders and leave it at that.  ...MEANWHILE, as Harper and I were furiously cleaning and putting toys back in their bins, Scarlett disappeared for juuuust enough seconds to dump the basket of toys in the living room AND dismember an entire box of tissues.
The next day looked like this:
...and the next day like this:
...and holyyyyy schmoly, messes here, messes there, MESSES MESSES EVERYWHEREEE, and my mind is more or less just minutes from exploding!  How again is it possible that two mini humans can make such a massive MESS?!??
Then! You think I'd know by now that >30 seconds of silence is never a good thing, but nope! That same day, while changing Thing 2's poop diaper, I heard the proud voice of Thing 1 yelling, "BOOOOTY-ful!!!" from the master bathroom:
^^ L to the O to the L.  ...Not too bad, actually!  Only problem was that she used my concealer brush to apply the eyeshadow and it was coated up in thurr reallllll thick and dark and so! Black circles under the eyes be forever mine.  Following the DIY makeup counter event, I donned the most appropriate shirt I owned and packed us up to GET OUTTA DA' HOUSE.

And *ding ding ding!* -- that was the key! Getting out of the house day after day and leaving the dishes and laundry and messy ole' house behind to suffer was definitely the answer.  Woot! We recently got a membership to the children's museum in town...

...and signed up for more classes at the YMCA.
We always enjoy Tuesday morning preschool lab at the library...
...and sometimes we even stoop to the level of visiting the pet store juuuuust for a little extra bit of sanity! Scarlett loves watching the mice run around and the fish swim, and Harper loves showing Emma all around the store, too.
...Would it be bad if I maybe just left them there -- snuggled in these super cozy dog beds -- for just 30 minutes more so I could sprint home and tidy up the house?! ;) :)
Jay to the kay, of course.

We are now looking forward to the imminent springtime so we can start playing at all the parks in town!

OY, VEY! The days are long, but the years are so very short... I wish it wasn't so, because pretty sure shorter days and longer years would be more up my alley, but alas!  I've learned the hard way that I can't have it all [in the form of clean dishes/fresh laundry/tidy house AND happy kids] while I have tiny humans under my roof, so I'm lifting it up and learning to find joy in the small things.  I know I should be treasuring the chaos, because it most certainly won't last forever.

And so! Cheers to these two for keeping me on my toes [amidst the messes, of course] and showing me an unconditional love that I do not deserve!!!  I love being yo' mama!
Now.......back to the original question: where are all those laid back, "I have it all together" moms who can invite the kids and me over for an old-fashioned "coffee?" Feel free to dial up this hot-mess-express anytime! ;) :)

- Flip floP -

Flippin' and floppin' and twistin' and turnin'... Let 7 weeks of toddler gymnastics commence!
We [Emma included] loved watching Harper get her groove on and do her thang during these 30-minute sessions!  She made a lot of progress with strength on the uneven bars and balance on the beam over the weeks.
Go, little gymnast, go!  We are proud of you!  :D
